Get Your Posture Right Back To Prevent Back Pain

A poor posture is a result of bad habits that are carried out over the years. We often hear that good posture is essential for our good health. Also, most of us have memories of our elders reminding and advising us to stand straight and stop drooping.

This is because, when we droop our bodies, the muscles get strained and gradually we suffer from a bad posture. Heavy stress and strain on the muscles also lead to back pain, headache, and other problems.

Posture

Posture is the way a person holds the body while sitting, standing, bending, lifting or lying down. Good posture keeps the joints and bones in a correct alignment and reduces the muscle strain, thereby preventing back pain, joint pain, and other discomforts. Most people develop back pain especially the people who continuously sit and work for long hours. This happens due to poor posture.

Painful Symptoms

Due to the poor body posture, we may develop the following problems such as:

  • Body Ache
  • Back Pain
  • Lower back pain
  • Neck
  • Shoulder pain
  • Arm pain
  • Leg, hip, and ankle pain
  • Muscle fatigue

Posture Treatment to Prevent Pain

There are many treatments that may significantly decrease the pain and minimize postural dysfunction.

  • Osteopathic treatment- It is a non-invasive manual treatment that focuses on relieving pain from joints, muscles, and spine. The osteopathic intervention can treat back pain, postural problems, headache, and arthritis. It is a drug-free technique, in which the physician not only treats the problem area but also uses the manual technique to balance all parts of the body.
  • Acupuncture It is a form of treatment that involves inserting thin, sterile needles at specific points of the body. It is an effective and short term treatment to relieve back pain, neck pain, shoulder pain, knee pain, muscle, and joint pain.
  • Electrotherapy- Electrotherapy is primarily used in physical therapy for relaxation of muscles and it is effective in treating back and neck pain.
  • Postural Taping- Postural taping is an effective treatment to support the upper back and neck. It is mainly associated with correcting poor posture. This improves the alignment and reduces the stress on the spine and muscles while doing routine activities.
  • Corrective exercises and movements for the improvement of strength and flexibility.
  • Other than these treatments, postural training, and education, pilates exercises, soft tissue massages improve the posture and gives relief from back pain.
