SPINAL STENOSIS
Spinal stenosis is the condtion of narrowing the spinal canal. Narrowing of the spinal canal puts pressure on the spinal cord or nerve roots. It can cause pain, muscle weakness and bladder problems. Uncontrolled growth of bones, spinal injuries, damaged disc or tumors are the major sources of spinal stenosis.
Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, antidepressants and opioids are useful medications for spinal stenosis. Surgery is needed only if all other ways are closed.
SCIATICA
It is the pain felt in the sciatic nerve in your lower back. Compression of this sciatic nerve due to herniated disc or bone spur can cause severe pain. Sciatica usually affects only one side of your body.
Symptoms may include burning or tingling sensation down the legs, a shooting pain preventing you from standing up, weakness or numbness in the leg and difficulty movement.
Non-surgical treatments like pain relievers, muscle relaxants or cortisone injection can relieve your pain most often. The need of surgery is a little.
SCOLIOSIS
Scoliosis is the abnormal sideways rotation or curvature of the spine which is commonly found in children. This condition is characterized by symptoms like uneven shoulders, uneven waists, one shoulder feels prominent than other and tendency to lean to one side.
Scoliosis may usually result from either cerebral palsy or muscular dystrophy. Cerebral palsy is the condition which arises from brain damage during birth. Muscular dystrophy is a genetic abnormality leading to muscle weakness. Injuries or damages to spine can also cause scoliosis.
Wearing of braces in children can prevent further progression of the curve but it can never cure scoliosis. Surgery called spinal fusion can be performed to reduce the severity of scoliosis.
KYPHOSIS
It is also known as round back or hunch back. It is the condition of abnormal curvature or rounding of the spine in the neck. A certain amount of spine curvation is common. But kyphosis occurs when curvature goes beyond limit. The symptoms of kyphosis include chronic back pain or difficulty sleeping. Loss of appetite is also common.
Kyphosis may be postural or structural. Postural kyphosis results from the poor posture of patient. This can be corrected by certain physical exercises and by keeping a good posture. Structural kyphosis occurs when any damages or abnormalities affect the spinal components. Analgesics and anti-inflammatory drugs can be used to get relief.
BRACHALGIA
Any injuries to the cervical nerve roots in the spine can cause pain the shoulder, arms and hands. It usually occurs due to muscle compression due to herniated disc or pinched nerves.
